441 stainless steel strip is a ferritic stainless steel stabilized with titanium (Ti) and niobium (Nb). It belongs to the 400 series of high-performance stainless steels, typically designated ASTM 441 or SUS 441. Its primary composition is 17-18.5% chromium (Cr) and 0.3-0.8% molybdenum (Mo), with titanium and niobium added as stabilizing elements. Due to its unique composition, 441 stainless steel strip exhibits excellent resistance to high temperatures, corrosion, and oxidation, while also offering good formability and weldability, making it an ideal alternative to austenitic stainless steel in specific high-temperature applications. 441 stainless steel strip's most notable features are its exceptional high-temperature stability and resistance to intergranular corrosion. At high temperatures (up to 800°C), titanium and niobium effectively bind carbon and nitrogen to form stable carbonitrides, preventing chromium depletion at grain boundaries and significantly improving the material's corrosion resistance after welding and heat treatment. Furthermore, the addition of molybdenum enhances its resistance to oxidation, stress corrosion, and pitting corrosion, making it particularly suitable for use in corrosive environments containing chloride ions or in humid, high-temperature environments. Compared with common austenitic stainless steels such as 304 and 316, 441 has a ferritic structure, a lower thermal expansion coefficient, better thermal conductivity, and does not contain nickel, making it more cost-effective. It also has good resistance to stress corrosion cracking and is not easy to deform or crack under conditions of frequent thermal cycles.
