409L Cold Rolled Stainless Steel Strip For Automotive Metal Bellows

409L automotive bellows is a bellows made of 409L stainless steel, mainly used in key parts such as automotive exhaust systems.

Material core advantages
Medium temperature corrosion resistance: 409L is a ferritic stainless steel, containing about 11%-12% chromium, and adding titanium to stabilize carbon. It can withstand the medium and high temperatures (usually 200-600℃) of the automotive exhaust system, and has a certain corrosion resistance to water vapor, sulfides, etc. in the exhaust, reducing perforation caused by rust.
Moderate cost: Compared with austenitic stainless steels such as 304 and 321, 409L is cheaper and suitable for large-scale applications in the automotive industry that are cost-sensitive.
Good weldability: Easy to process and weld, can meet the complex corrugated structure and interface connection requirements of the bellows, and ensure overall sealing.

Application scenarios
Automobile exhaust system: As a connecting pipe and flexible joint between the exhaust manifold and the muffler, it is widely used in the exhaust systems of passenger cars and commercial vehicles, and is one of the mainstream materials for automobile exhaust bellows.
Partial heat dissipation pipeline: In the low-temperature heat dissipation pipeline close to the engine, its temperature resistance and flexibility are used to adapt to the complex layout and vibration environment in the engine compartment.

Differences from bellows made of other materials
Compared with 304 stainless steel bellows: 304 has better corrosion resistance and temperature resistance, but the cost is high and it is mostly used in high-end models or special environments; 409L has a higher cost performance and is suitable for popular models while meeting the basic needs of automobile exhaust.
Compared with ordinary carbon steel bellows: 409L has much better corrosion resistance than carbon steel, which can significantly extend the service life of the exhaust bellows (usually up to 5-8 years, carbon steel only 2-3 years), and reduce the frequency of maintenance and replacement.
