409L Cold Rolled Stainless Steel Strip For Expansion Joints

409L cold-rolled stainless steel strip is a low-carbon, titanium-stabilized ferritic stainless steel. Due to its excellent high-temperature resistance, good formability, weldability, and cost-effectiveness, it is widely used in key industrial components, particularly in expansion joints.
Expansion joints are primarily used in pipes, exhaust systems, or equipment connections to absorb stresses caused by thermal expansion and contraction, vibration, displacement, or installation misalignment, thereby preventing structural damage. 409L cold-rolled stainless steel strip, due to its unique material properties, is an ideal choice for expansion joints used in low- and medium-temperature environments. Its chromium content is approximately 10.5% to 11.75%, and titanium (Ti) is added to stabilize carbonitrides, effectively inhibiting intergranular corrosion at high temperatures and improving the material's stability during welding and long-term thermal cycling.
The cold-rolling process imparts 409L stainless steel strip with uniform thickness, a smooth surface, high dimensional accuracy, and stable mechanical properties, meeting the precision forming requirements for bellows or connecting components in expansion joints. Its excellent ductility and resilience ensure that it is not susceptible to cracking or fatigue failure during repeated expansion and compression, and it has excellent resistance to thermal fatigue. 409L also exhibits excellent oxidation resistance in oxidizing environments below 600°C, making it suitable for applications subject to cyclical temperature fluctuations, such as automotive exhaust systems, industrial flues, and hot air ducts.
